Welcome to Kerry Martin Arts

Of recent years my paintings have been landscapes of forest and snow; moving to live in Tasmania in 2001 was a return, in a way, to life remembered as a child growing up in rural New South Wales with frosts in winter and the space of farming land around me. Wherever I live my paintings reflect my surroundings so in Tasmania I’ve created paintings of the high country forest and snow and in the deserts of central Australia my paintings depict the vibrant icons of Aboriginal culture and terrain. Although I have travelled to most states of Australia, to Europe and Britain and recently to the USA, it is living in a region that creates an emotional response and this is reflected in my paintings.

Quote from Andrea Stretton essay 2004, opening Shroudings, Devonport Regional Gallery, Tasmania, Australia “...her abiding theme is landscape. This is never a landscape she simply visits and views, but rather a place where she lives and breathes, watches and listens, month after month, year after year.”
